Claudine Doury

With the great interest awakened in his coming photographers and Brazilian students, we would like to answer, if I could, to a few questions about his work.

1 -) In his work in Artek, Ukraine, you dive into a teen universe, full of magic and incongruities, however the result is so close, that makes us think that your camera is part of this universe. How can such proximity being foreign, with the difficulties of language and not being a teenager like them?

I speak a little Russian, which allows me to communicate with people directly, without passing through an interpreter. As for getting me closer to teenagers, it is precisely this "work" that interests me, that they can, if I "forget" at least act naturally and accept me, somehow.

2 -) Question Muylaert Eduardo, who will interview him live during the festival in Paraty: "Can documentary photography, in a troubled world, have an appeal plastic?"

Every picture has an aesthetic, a form (you can not fit anyway, just because it is journalism or war).
I, I drive my work more, prepare a "mis en scene." I think it is very important to research, not necessarily the aesthetics, but new forms, in all types of photography. This story goes against the aesthetics ... (actually against what? The brutal truth? Poverty, war?) I do not quite understand.
I think it has to be careful not to cease to be human, to have an hour of ethics in reporting, photo-documentation, being in truth all the time, and everything.

3 -) In their beautiful portraits, there is a clear predominance among the directors and actors portrayed, how strong is your connection to the cinema? There is influence of film narrative in his documentary work?

Actually I do a few portraits, even though my agency placed them online.
On the other hand, I think (and is also what they tell me) that my picture is rather close to the language of cinema.

4 -) The pictures of "Loulan Beauty" are so poetic as to seem dreams, fantasies. Is there any direct interference on his part toward these moments, or are fully documented and spontaneous?

Certainly, in my series "Loulan", some pictures are addressed, but others do not.

5 -) Thank you for your patience and thank you also for your wonderful work, an inspiration for any photographer.

I appreciate the compliments that you do to my work, the word "songe" diretament speaks to my heart.
I say even "good" soon!!

I was passionate about her work. Also found very pertinenten questioning aesthetic versus documentary photography (especially because it is the area that interests me and plasticity has always been important to me)
