In pre-production meeting held on 21 January, the Board of Trustees of Paraty in Focus 2010 hit the hammer: the theme of the 6th edition of the festival, which takes place from 14 to 19 September , is "Inventories of the Earth."

The theme is broad and want to accommodate the issues of photographic record of the environment, seeking to go beyond conventional approaches - but without discarding its variables frequently. PEF in 2010, since we consider the contours documentary art, without ideological prejudices or visual.

At the meeting, Iatã Cannabrava, program coordinator of the event, pointed out that the paths to the choice of theme began to get a definition after the Copenhagen Conference in November last year, which brought up many conversations, but few resolutions. "In 'hangover' of Copenhagen, we will call photographers to rethink and revise their agendas, think what planet we live and what planet we live," said the coordinator.

Added to this "hangover", the fact that the United Nations established in 2010 as the "Year of Biodiversity." To Iatã, "is also the role of photographers look at these issues and bring new approaches to the subject."

Even within the same universe, they are natural disasters that are happening worldwide. Floods in Brazil, the devastating snowstorms in Northern Europe and the earthquake in Haiti are some examples that invite an examination minuncioso, not only politically, but how this debate could reverberate in international contemporary imagery.

The premise was suggested by photographer Claudia Jaguaribe Rio, also present at the meeting and the author of several books and, using the Israeli Nadav Kander's work as a reference, addressed a "world built on accidents - whether natural or manmade." Many other photographers like Richard Misrach California - and his criticism of American nuclear tests - or the Canadian Robert Polidori, with dramatic images of New Orleans post-Katrina, were also remembered by the members of the Council.
