Photos of the Cuban Alberto Korda will be auctioned in Britain
© Photo by Alberto Korda. The photograph of Fidel Castro playing golf with a military uniform is one of seven images that will be auctioned next month. Seven images taken by Cuban photographer Alberto Korda (1928-2001), including those of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara playing golf wearing military uniforms, will be auctioned in Britain on March 4, 2010, at the auction house Dominic Winter Book Auctions . These photographs were donated by a friend Korda before his death in 2001 in Paris. The photos in black and white cover a period between 1959 and 1964. Some photos show Che Guevara himself, another shows Fidel Castro with the American writer Ernest Hemingway, and also a visit to Russia of revolutionaries. There is also a picture of Fidel speaking to a crowd. Alberto Korda was Fidel Castro's personal photographer, and author of the famous photograph of Che Guevara's face, one of the images published in the world. However, the "star" of the auction is a picture of Fidel Castro and Camilo Cienfuegos armed, bound for Havana on January 8, 1959.
