Robert Mapplethorpe retrospective opens in Germany

A major retrospective of the work of Robert Mapplethorpe will be open from this Saturday (06/02) in the exhibition space NWR-Forum in Dusseldorf. The images from the U.S. back to Germany to tell the course of the artist famous for his wit: there are 150 photos on nudity, homosexuality, flowers, pictures and sculptures self-portrait. The work of the photographer, who died in 1989, was the subject of controversial debates, especially in the United States. His views were marred by boycotts, censorship and have suffered cancellations. "I look for the perfection of form. I do it in pictures, photos of penis, pictures of flowers, "said Mapplethorpe. In Germany, the photos of the artist helped inspire generations of the aesthetic movement that grew in the years 1980 and 1990. At the time, the photos of Mapplethorpe were sold as posters and pasted into student dormitories. In Düsseldorf, the exhibition includes images taken with Polaroid in 1973, until self-portrait of 1988. The novelty is that the tour of the exhibition will be made by phone, and visitors can leave comments recorded at the cost of a local call.
