The Catalan photographer Samuel Aranda was awarded the World Press Photo award in the category Photo of the Year 2011. The winning photograph was held on October 15, 2011 during riots in Yemen, and shows a mother holding her child during the repression of demonstrators in the country. The coverage of the Arab revolutions in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and Yemen, initiated by the photographer in 2011, led him to achieve great international prestige.
